Lets be honest, federations are kind of underwhelming nowadays, they make mid- to lategame wars a slog and always end up being abused by your vassals. Federations simply need a real overhaul, and thats where we come into play!

Features
Democratization:

New Election Mechanic
The President will later on be chosen by a general election that is working democratically but keeps the Player’s fun in mind.

Grand Assembly & Presidential Power
The backbone for most new laws and a thorn to any wannabe Dictator. If you want to consolidate power into the Presidency and hold the office for longer, must you dissolve the Grand Assembly in the lategame again.

Vassal Tactics
Vassals inside the Federation will be restricted at medium centralization, they ruin the mechanics of federations and erode them to an Overlord’s playground to abuse both Vassal and Federation Mechanics.
Thus allowing Vassals into a Federation will keep it from growing beyond Low Centralization, only within Hegemonies can you keep them. Other Federations are about sharing interests, not dominating one another.

Federal Capital Station
The station will be constructed ~8 years after Medium Centralization is enacted. The Federal Capital will rotate between presidents and orbit their worlds.
It also showcases the Federal Market Volume!

The Federal Market:

The Federal Market will count the produced Trade and Consumer Goods on all planets within a Federation and from it will calculate the Market Volume.

Market Volume can be converted into resources via Market Policies (like Trade Policies.) Different Market Policies can be unlocked early by different Federation types:

  • Unity Policy by a Holy Covenant, or Galactic Union
  • Military Policy by a Martial Alliance
  • Strategic Policy by a Research Cooperative

The Federal Enclave is a unique building that is fitted to serve the needs of each Federation Type to make them each more respectable, but limit it by Sector amount.

Relations & Accords:

Internal Treaties will restrict diplomatic agreements outside the federation,
Ethical Partners enforces Empire Policies:

  • Banning Slavery
  • Banning No Refugees
  • Banning Aggressive Pre-FTL Interference

Cooperation Accord will further Research Sharing within the Federation.
Unyielding Accord will ban Unrestricted Wars but give 500 Fleet Cap to all members.

Enemies of the Imperium:

Federations should not simply kneel to the Galactic Imperium. Why would they? They will remain firm and be a strong opposing outside force to the Emperor.
Either the Emperor can bring them into the fold, or the fires of freedom will burn him!

Federations will also not fracture as much anymore upon a War in Heaven.

Diplomatic Blocs:

Vassals were the Go-To when it came to manipulating votes, but there must be a democratic alternative: Diplomatic Bloc Laws!
They grant the President parts of the Diplomatic Weight of other Federal members within the Galactic Senate. AI Federations will be a strong opposition anaginst you.

Laws & Events:

We added ~20 New Laws and more than 25 New Events, they will all come naturally and you don’t need to worry about stuff – just play the game ;D

Cohesion Rebalance:

Cohesion is now much harder to get by and easier to loose through laws. The larger your federation, the bigger the problem will become. This is now a relevant mechanic to watch out for as it triggers a Vote of No Confidence.

We hope that you will find:

  • that Federations are the egalitarian answer to Overlords,
  • that there is finally an economic incentive to cooperate and see the AI succeed,
  • that federations only encourage a playstyle but won’t force anything on you,
  • that Cohesion as an actual important mechanic as the game progesses,
  • that other Federation Types are more worthwhile now,
  • that the Common Ground Origin might really benefit you again,
  • that the Late-Game will be painted by the Galactic Imperium and Federation’s rivalry.
Compatibility & Notes

Will probably conflict with other Federation mods, but there aren’t really other mods anymore that really do something and still work.

  • common/federation_laws/every file except for example.txt and event_laws.txt
  • Following Diplomatic Actions: action_leave_federation, action_invite_to_federation, action_ask_to_join_federation
  • Following Policies: interference, refugees, slavery, war_philosophy

Known issues

when you enact "world States" the entire galaxy gets revealed on the next monthly tick. i have not found a way to avoid this so far.

DLCs Needed?
You will want to have the Federations DLC when using this mod, its not necessarily needed, but features will be simplified without the DLC.

What is Dandelion? An emerging group of mods – D-Lion Mods – that overhaul and expand on neglected aspects of Stellaris, while staying true to the Vanilla experience. Shrouded Regions was the first among them, Age of Federations the second.
