328’s Species Traits Buffs

”Did you ever make a build that wasn’t Intelligent, Rapid Breeders, and Unruly? Here is one, brought down to Steam and fixed for the wonder of ages.”
I was tired of having so many fun, flavorful ideas that were simply too weak when it came to gameplay, so I decided to change that. This mod had one simple goal: I would look at every trait, and each one that I couldn’t call “Good”, I would buff. So that’s what I did. Therefore, every trait that was already a good pick is unchanged, and the buffed traits weren’t buffed too far, making this mod quite balanced.
Let me know if the game says somewhere (like in a tooltip) that a trait is weaker than it should be according to this mod. The trait should still be buffed in effect, the game just might not say so.

Buffed Normal Traits

Extremely Adaptive | -4 Trait points → -3 Trait Points | I always found it hard to justify picking Adaptive, let alone Extremely Adaptive, so I made it just a tad more viable.
Agrarian | +15% Food from Jobs → +25% Food from Jobs | Always felt the extra resource traits were pretty weak, and after doing some research, it seems most competitive players agree.
Industrious | +15% Minerals from Jobs → +25% Minerals from Jobs | Ditto.
Ingenious | +15% Energy Credits from Jobs → +25% Energy Credits from Jobs | Ditto.
Venerable | +80 years Leader Lifespan → +120 years Leader Lifespan, -4 Trait points → -3 Trait Points | Venerable has always been such a flavorful choice. Unfortunately, it’s also always been a weak as ♥♥♥♥ choice.
Strong | +20% Army Damage, +2.5% Worker Output → +33% Army Damage, +3.3% Worker Output | Ironically, Strong has never been very strong.
Very Strong | +40% Army Damage, +5% Worker Output → +100% Army Damage, +10% Worker Output | If you’re paying 3x as many points for Very Strong over normally Strong, you better get 3x the benefits!
Quick Learners | +10% Leader experience gain → +15% Leader experience gain | Feeling cute, might buff this one even more later idk
Nomadic | +15% Pop growth from immigration, -25% Resettlement cost → +25% Pop growth from immigration, -40% Resettlement cost | I would consider this a genuinely decent pick now.
Conservationist | −10% Pop consumer goods upkeep → -20% Pop consumer goods upkeep | Considering how awful this trait is, doubling its efficacy hardly seems like a problem.
Communal | −10% Pop housing usage → −20% Pop housing usage | Ditto.
Conformists | +30% Governing ethics attraction → +45% Governing ethics attraction | Now I might actually use this trait at some point. …Nah, probably not.
Resilient | +50% Defense army damage → +100% Defense army damage | I see the AI take this a lot so I might have trouble invading worlds now. But that just means this perk is worth taking now.
Inorganic Breath | -3 Trait Points → -1 Trait Point, +50% Pop Food Upkeep ONLY (no CG) | I’ve never felt this bonus was that great, especially paired with the terrible upkeep increase. Thus, it is now cheaper and pops no longer use more consumer goods (which never made sense from a flavor standpoint anyway).

Buffed Negative Traits

Slow Breeders | +2 Trait Points → +3 Trait Points | This is a crippling disadvantage, you should at least be rewarded more for it.
Nonadaptive | +2 Trait Points → +3 Trait Points | Ditto.
Psychological Infertility | +2 Trait Points → +3 Trait Points | Ditto.

Buffed Cyborg Traits

Harvesters | +10% Food from jobs → +15% Food from jobs | Just a little boost to let it keep up with the buffs to the biological counterpart to this trait.
Power Drills | +10% Minerals from jobs → +15% Minerals from jobs | Ditto.
Superconductive | +10% Energy credits from jobs → +15% Energy credits from jobs | Ditto.
Integrated Weaponry | +100% Army damage → +125% Army damage | Given the massive army bonus given to Very Strong, I felt a small buff to this was necessary to keep it competitive.

Buffed Robot Traits

Harvesters | +15% Food from jobs → +25% Food from jobs | Same reason as the biological version.
Power Drills | +15% Minerals from jobs → +25% Minerals from jobs | Ditto.
Superconductive | +15% Energy credits from jobs → +25% Energy credits from jobs | Ditto.
Double Jointed | −10% Pop housing usage → −20% Pop housing usage | Damn, he wasn’t lying, those joints do be doubled
Recycled | –20% Pop assembly cost → –50% Pop assembly cost | The amount of alloys 20% saves you is… not a lot. Hopefully this is now a more tempting pick.
Learning Algorithms | +10% Leader experience gain → +15% Leader experience gain | Just keeping it in line with its biological version.

Buffed Overtuned Traits

Dedicated Miner | +15% Minerals from Jobs → +25% Minerals from Jobs | Just keeping it in line with its non-Overtuned version.
Farm Appendages | +15% Food from jobs → +25% Food from jobs | Ditto.
Technical Talent | +15% Energy credits from jobs → +25% Energy credits from jobs | Ditto.
Expressed Tradition | +10% Unity from jobs → +30% Unity from jobs | Previously, it provided just as large a bonus as its non-Overtuned version… but reduced your lifespan by 10 years. It was literally just a worse version with no benefit the other version doesn’t give.
Low Maintenance | −10% Pop consumer goods upkeep → −40% Pop consumer goods upkeep | Ditto. But since I also buffed the non-Overtuned version, I had to buff this one even further.
Gene Mentorship | +25% Leader experience gain → +30% Leader experience gain | Only a small buff, but that’s because it’s already pretty good, only needing a little kick.
Juiced Power | +40% Army damage, +5% Worker and menial drone pop resource output → +66% Army damage, +6.6% Worker and menial drone pop resource output | You might notice the hierarchy of 33s from Strong, to this, to Very Strong.

Buffed Origin Traits

Serviles | +10% Happiness, +10% Resources from jobs → +20% Happiness, +20% Resources from jobs | Honestly, I only wanted to buff this to 15% and then increase the number of Pops you get from Syncretic by 2, but I couldn’t figure out how to do that so I just buffed this more lol

Miscellaneous Additions

I had a couple ideas related to things changed in this mod, so I figured I might as well put them in alongside each other.

In addition to buffing the Livestock traits (Delicious and Felsic) I wanted base Livestock to be a bit more viable since they’re really not worth it at all without those traits, so biological Livestock now give 5 Food (was 4) and Lithoid Livestock now give 2.5 Minerals (was 2). Additionally, they no longer use any amenities (why did they use amenities in the first place? It’s not like we give our broiler chickens Seinfeld to keep them entertained).

Since this mod is dedicated entirely to species traits, I figured I might as well finally go through with making a pair of traits I’ve wanted to see for a long time. Voracious and Efficient Metabolism increase and decrease your Pops’ Food upkeep by 33% respectively.

Compatibility

Due to how traits are coded, this mod is incompatible with mods that modify (almost) any existing species traits (even ones this one doesn’t change). This isn’t something I can help unfortunately, it’s how Paradox coded traits. Mods that add new traits should work fine with this mod.
