- Researching Self-Evolving Logic is a necessary conditions for unlock Self-Aware Colony Ships, Positronic AI and Extended Combat Algorithms. You also need research Self-Aware Colony Ships in order to unlock AI-Controlled Colony Ships (also called Colony Fabrication Drones for machine intelligence).
- From the icon behind the tech name Sapient Combat Simulations, you know that it is physics technology. If the lead physics scientist has a Computing field expertise, then the tech’s chances of being drawn would be increased. The left condition gives more chances than the right. "Computing" and "Computing > 3" are two different things. ">3" means the skill level of a leader should greater than three, otherwise the tech’s chances of being drawn would not be changed.
- There are two Sapient Combat Simulations, which does not mean there are two different technologies (Machine Template System is the only exception). Sapient Combat Simulations has two prerequisite technologies: Extended Combat Algorithms and Positronic AI, so the tree shows two path:
1. Self-Evolving Logic -> Positronic AI -> Sapient Combat Simulations [require Extended Combat Algorithms]
2. Self-Evolving Logic -> Extended Combat Algorithms [require Specialized Combat Computers] -> Sapient Combat Simulations [require Positronic AI]

Higher tier technologies require obtaining a certain number of technologies from the preceding tier (set at 6 for all tiers) before they become available as research alternatives.
