Description:

This is an optional Space Combat Expanded module that adds the Carrier class to the game, complete with its own AI and tech upgrades consistent with standard classes.
While vanilla Cruisers and Battleships can dabble in carrier operations, the Carrier is designed to fully exploit that niche.

The Carrier is a battleship-sized, highly specialised vessel dedicated entirely to small craft production, maintenance and deployment. But while no other ship can match its supportive ability in protracted battles and sieges, a Carrier targeted by the main guns of an enemy battleship or outflanked by a pack of corvettes is nothing more than a glorified landing pad.

In game terms, the Carrier is a size 8 military ship capable of launching strike craft out of up to 6 hangar bays. In addition, all strike craft launched by a Carrier deal more damage and fire faster than normal. However, its own armaments and defences are minimal. To compensate for its vulnerability, Carrier will avoid close combat and prefer to stay behind the rest of the fleet.

  • Carriers fit perfectly into the fleet doctrine of the SCX Mass Effect Classes module. And because they are not subject to the Treaty of Farixen, Carriers can be used as an alternative to Dreadnoughts in providing extreme-range firepower.

This mod is dependent on the assets and code provided by SCX Core. It cannot function without it!
