Viral News adds a society technology, an empire-unique broadcast building, and a large pool of lighthearted colony news events inspired by modern tabloids, social media, celebrity culture, conspiracy channels, and local mysteries.

What This Mod Adds

  • Viral News Networks — a tier 2 society technology unlocked after Holo-Entertainment.
  • HyperNet Media Nexus — an empire-unique building that produces Unity, adds amenities, and activates the Viral News event chain. Only one may be built per empire.
  • 100 Viral News events — breaking news, local mysteries, celebrity scandals, social media frenzies, human interest stories, entertainment gossip, and other civilian media absurdities.
  • Colony modifiers — some stories leave temporary local effects such as Viral Media Buzz, Public Panic, Tourism Spike, or Human Interest Uplift.

How It Works

  1. Research Viral News Networks.
  2. Build the HyperNet Media Nexus on a colony with an upgraded capital.
  3. Complete the one-time network launch event when the building finishes.
  4. After that, the HyperNet periodically checks for new stories across your empire.
  5. Some events apply a temporary colony modifier to the featured world.

Stories are meant to feel like background civilian media noise rather than empire-shaping crises. Think tabloid headlines, viral trends, celebrity mishaps, and debates about whether elevators are sentient.

Event Frequency

When a story appears, a random cooldown is applied before the next one can occur.
On average, expect roughly one Viral News event every 4–5 in-game years, depending on RNG.

Colony modifiers from events typically last 2 years.
