The Necrons are the remnants of a once-mortal civilization known as the Necrontyr, who traded their fragile organic forms for cold, immortal bodies of living metal. In doing so, they bound their souls to machines – and in the process, lost much of what made them living beings.
They slumbered for eons in stasis-crypts scattered across the stars, hidden beneath the surface of forgotten worlds. Now, they awaken.
Driven by a singular will – either that of a ruling Overlord, a Silent King, or their ancient programming – they rise not to conquer in haste, but to reclaim what was once theirs. Planets, star systems, even entire sectors that have changed hands for millions of years are, in Necron logic, merely occupied property awaiting reclamation.
Necron ships are silent engines of annihilation: silent, slow, and indestructible. Their technology is rooted in dark sciences that defy known physics – phase shifting, regenerative alloys, and gauss-based weaponry capable of flaying matter at the atomic level. They do not negotiate. They do not warn. They do not forget.
Other civilizations may see the galaxy as a frontier.
To the Necrons, it is simply home – temporarily defiled by the unworthy.
