Research Focus Policies
Lets you steer your tech draws independently across the three fields like you could before the three research scientists were removed in 3.8. Now you don’t have to recruit and keep alive different leaders for different fields, but there’s a small bonus for not picking a subfield to focus on, and you can only change each focus once every 10 years since they’re policies.
Archaeostudies and Psionics focus policies are opened by the Archaeostudies and Psionics Theory techs respectively; you might still want leaders with expertise to help draw those.
Not yet implemented: making these focus policies "count as" having a leader with expertise for the purpose of drawing rare techs like Synthetics, where not having an appropriate leader still dramatically reduces the draw weight even in 3.8 where most techs don’t have their weights individually modified in this way.
