WAAAGH [Beta] – Ork Psychic Field Civic
WAAAGH civic: your species gains a trait generating a resource that you can spend on powerful milestone edicts.
15/03/2020: Base WAAAGH generation reduced slightly but if your empire is at war, it should now generate twice as fast. Also added an expensive 10k edict to let you swap WAAAGH for alloys and influence, just so you’ve got something to do with it once all the milestones are met
Waaay back in the days of tiles I briefly attempted a (crap, hastily discontinued) mod that gave an empire access to something a little like a WAAAGH tower, Dawn of War style, for generating a special resource for special units.
And recently I tried to revisit that idea in the form of an Exigency rework for Psionic Heritage, and again, it was a bit crap: you build a tower and produce Fervour to buy Zealots and wow what a lot of effort for nothing. Didn’t go with that.
So now here’s a 2.8 attempt at modelling the 40k Orks’ infamous psychic field! The WAAAGH resource is now tied to a species trait, and every pop with that trait slowly generates WAAAGH (at base rate, the combined population on your starting colony will produce roughly 1 point a month).
The WAAAGH milestones appear on the Edict list but don’t use up capacity and have virtually permanent durations. In that respect, it’s got more in common with research production being used to unlock technologies rather than a true strategic resource.
At present the only way to check your WAAAGH count is to mouse over the activate button for an edict you can’t afford and see how much you’re lacking. Clumsy but I don’t think it’s worth adding this to one of the universal strategic resource mods just yet…
This is a proof of concept more than anything else and will need balanced!
Credit for this mechanic goes to Princess Stabbity, who helped me understand how the hell you were supposed to make pops produce anything in this version: WAAAGH generation is lifted straight from her "Biotic" trait as found in Mass Effect Civilisations – Asari.
P.S. If you want to muck around you can use the "resource sr_waaagh" console command to give yourself as much as you want!
