Ion Cannon Rebalance
Ion Cannons. We know they all suck, right? Weak, too expensive, takes an eternity to build and are outclassed by the 8 defense platforms you could put there instead. Not anymore! Additionally, you can finally mount Battleship-class spinal weapons to your starbases with the Small Ion Cannon for all your Tachyon Lance, Mega Cannon or Arc Emitter needs.
With this mod, late game defensive starbases are a lot more viable, as you can now practically mount a considerable number of the XL and/or T-slot weapons that you need to stand a chance against battleship stacks. Or at least do a better job at taking as many ships down as you can before your Citadel falls to the Crisis doomstack.
This mod:
- Rebalances the Ion Cannon
- Adds the Small Ion Cannon
- Alloy cost dramatically reduced to 1000
- Build time halved from 1080 days to 540
- Platform slot size decreased from 8 to 2
- 150% HP buff
- Range bonus increased from 20% to 100% to prevent enemy fleets from slipping by along the edge of the system
- Can be mounted on Star Fortresses instead of requiring Citadel
- Mounts an XL slot instead of a T slot
- Build time: 360 days
- Build cost: 500 alloys
- Only takes up 1 slot
- 50% range bonus
- Uses downscaled ion cannon model
- Achievements? – No, this alters gameplay.
- Is this compatible with modded shipsets? – If the shipset has an Ion Cannon model, it will work! The Small Ion Cannon simply uses the normal Ion Cannon model but scaled down.
- I can’t build the Small Ion Cannon! – Small Ion Cannons are unlocked when you obtain your first XL-weapon tech. You may need to create a design in the Ship Designer first if auto-generation fails.
- This many big guns is OP!! – Battleship fleets already can have this many XL-weapons(plus L-slots!) and are mobile. Besides, if someone builds an Ion Cannon stack, just throw a torpedo corvette swarm at it, it won’t stand a chance as it misses all its very slow shots. The rebalance in this mod is to prevent Battleship fleets from cheesing starbases with their absurd range.
