Yet another performance mod
My take on the whole performance thing.
Inspired by the countless tries to squeeze every little drop of performance, this stupid-simple mod does one thing – dynamically applies a triggered modifier depending on planet overcrowding and/or unemployment.
Currently -5% to all pop growth/assembly speed for every overcrowded pop and -25% to all pop growth/assembly speed for every unemployed one.
This makes sure that the AI has more time to sort its economy out before it drowns itself in overcrowding/unemployment. Once it built some housing/jobs for its pops, the penalty will decrease (or go away completely). If it would continue to horribly mismanage its planet, then at some point pops would just stop growing.
For the AI this means:
1) Better planet stability (not as big of a stability hit caused by overcrowding)
2) Better economy through the reduction of upkeep costs for useless unemployed pops
3) Less unemployed pops further boosts stability because there aren’t as many unhappy pops
4) Actually useful (employed) pops are more happy since they get comparatively more amenities (which again increases planet stability and thus production output)
For the player this means:
1) Less goddamn lag caused by AI unemployment
2) Much less lategame micro as the pop growth/assembly at your own planets won’t just continue forewer
Current hard-ish caps (-500% penalty) are at -20 overcrowding or 10 unemployment. However, the growth would almost certainly stop way before that.
In practice, this mod will cause minor-to-moderate increase in performance for freshly started games. Tested on dozen or so observer games, works like a charm.
The modifiers themselves are tied to capital buildings, so nothing should remove/screw with them.
As such, the mod overwrites 00_capital_buildings.txt and is based on edits made in starnet. You can do whatever you wan’t with this mod, no credit is required.
