Description:

Makes some improvements (IMO) to population-related stuff.

Contains an updated version of my mod Reproductive Technology, plus some other stuff I was going to make seperate but bundled in once I realized I couldn’t make it as overwriting-light as I’d thought I could.

***

In Vanilla Stellaris, the only reproductive technology in the tech tree is "Cloning", which seems to combine "getting around the biological limitations on reproduction" with "mass-producing purpose-made citizens Brave New World style" The idea of this mod is to split that tech into two:

"Mechanized Procreation" represents artificial wombs ("uterine replicators", as Lois McMaster Bujold calls them) to let would-be mothers avoid the difficulty of pregnancy, plus various other obstacles so as not to leave egg-laying species out. It boosts pop growth and happiness.

"Industrialized Childraising" represents advanced pedagogy that allows Brave New World style dystopian mass-production of loyal adult citizens by a relatively small number of specialists. It unlocks "childraising complex" buildings which provide "childcare worker" jobs, producing pop assembly and boosting governing ethics attraction.

Clone Vats, meanwhile, are replaced with Genesis Vats, which are cheaper but cause pops to decline at the same rate as new ones are assembled; the assumption is that the newly assembled pops need parents (or childcare professionals, if you have Industrial Childraising) and those people would otherwise have been raising unmodified children. The AI, not being able to tell when it would benefit from a shift in species composition, will not build Genesis Vats.

The opposite side of the coin from population controls, Forced Reproduction lets you boost pop growth at the expense of stability and happiness. Unlike population controls, it must be enacted empire-wide if at all. Like population controls, it upsets the Progressive faction.

Inspired by hypotheses about how traditional patriarchy became so widespread by providing early states with more abundant serfs, the "Extreme Patriarchy" civic replaces the "No Forced Reproduction" and "Forced Reproduction" policies with the "Patriarchal Forced Reproduction" policy, increasing population growth and reducing happiness like "Forced Reproduction" but increasing rather than reducing stability.
