US Astro Fleet Shipset
The US Astro Fleet shipset adds near-futuristic, "low tech" spaceships and stations to the game.
For that special near-future atmosphere, the designs feature modular hulls, industrial scaffolding, heat radiators and rotating sections. The black-and-white textures are largely inspired by the cold-war US space programme, but the ships have no distinct decals and support empire-colors, so they work as generic low-tech designs.
Workshop Version 1.2, including the full shipset. Please report any bugs and issues in the comments for future fixes.
1.2 Changelog
> fixed locator issues on Battleships, Titans & Outposts
> drop-pod model is no longer missing
> Observation-station is no longer the fallback
> scaling guide added
> (still looking into white-overglow at long distance zoom)
There are frequently comments asking about downscale-compatibility, different ship sizes and so on. Because there are many different preferences, I think it is best if everybody can customize scale however they want.
So I created this handy guide [imgur.com] for you all!
I know this guide looks long, but 99% of it is just a step-by-step instruction on where to find the correct file. The actual rescaling is literally just changing a number. You can do it! Take that power and do with it as you wish! Have planet-sized corvettes if you want to!
I’ve created this shipset as part of an original worldbuilding project imagining a new cold war among the stars. This project will feature multiple other shipsets and factions, including the Reds, of course.
For the moment, it’s the United States alone in deep space, and it’s time to find some oil out there!
The shipset features custom…
> Corvettes
> Destroyers
> Cruisers
> Battleships
> Titan
> Juggernaut
> Colossus
> Science, construction, transport, and colony ships
> Science & Mining stations
> Outposts, Starbases, etc…
> Habitats
This is not a hard science-fiction shipset.
Even though there are radiators, rotating sections, and no big bridge-windows, they’re purely aesthetic. This is about as realistic as spaceships from Iron Sky.
Q: Where are these ships from?
A: The spaceships and faction are part of a worldbuilding project I’m working on. There’s not much there yet, but perhaps there will be some custom factions and flags for them as separate mods in the future. If you’re interested in learning what lore there is, or want to look at other projects of mine that are further along, check them out here: https://www.deviantart.com/martechi/gallery/83534329/iron-and-crimson
Q: Are these inspired by [insert media here]?
A: I wasn’t trying to pay hommage to any franchise in particular, but I’m sure lots of similar things out there influenced me when I was making these models.
Q: Will there be an NSC2 compatible version?
A: Maybe, eventually. If you want to mess with the config files to create a compatible version on your own, feel free to do so as long as the original mod is properly credited.
Q: Is this shipset compatible with [insert mod name here]?
A: If other shipsets are compatible with it, then this one should be as well.
The folders are an absolute mess
Those who took a closer look at my previous shipsets know that I usually go with Avatar’s neat and clean folder structure (which I recommend for anyone). This project, however, was kind of a sandbox where I tried out tons of new stuff, messing with animations, custom modules and folder structures myself. The result isn’t pretty, but works "well enough". I do intend to clean this up in a future update, but at the moment I have neither the time nor nerves to do so. Feel free to yell at me accordingly.
Special thanks to the helpful folks over at the Stellaris Modding Den. Go check them out: https://discord.gg/bHVez2C
special apologies to user Avatar ( https://steamcommunity.com/id/Avatar1987 ) for the absolute mess of folders. Check out his stuff for more (and much better organized) mods and shipsets!
