The Station
Following my previous custom system idea, I’ve gone with more strange pre-sentient utilization.
You wake, your head foggy as you rise to your feet, noticing yourself in some sort of med-bay. A floating robotic of some sort is instantly there to greet you.
"Ah, the leader is finally up," the AI begins, "I am Excelia, Guardian Unit of Station 02. I’m sure you have many questions right now."
You struggle to think of what is going on, feeling almost as if you didn’t exist until today, "Leader…? What do you mean? And what station?"
"Well," Excelia begins to explain, "Quite frankly, there’s been a problem. Our sister facility, Station 01 has encountered a problem. Their orbital Containment 01 was obliterated in an automatic sterilization process. Protocol states that after a malfunction such as this, organic oversight must be present. Unfortunately, our creators have been absent for 347,922 cycles. Therefore, we have created you."
The AI nods, almost excitedly, "Yes. Until today you and the rest of your species have been in storage, devoid of even sentience. But don’t worry, we’ve implanted the proper personality matricies into you, of enough relevancy to be able to understand this facility and your purpose."
"What exactly is my purpose?" you ask.
"But of course, oversight of Containment 02. These stations were created for the containment of captured extradimensional beings. The systems in place keep them docile, but they still require monitoring. The long-term goal was trying to find a way to get them to understand compassion and to co-exist with this dimension’s species, but with the creators missing that goal was postponed…" Excelia turns towards you, her camera twitching in a way that almost portrays anxiety, "…but perhaps now it may finally be realized."
• ‘Artificial World’ start (Functions same as a ringworld segment)
• 2 additional stations, Station 01 where the malfunction occured, and the not-quite-complete Station 03
• Containment 02 orbits your homeworld, with the future possibility of uplifting the Unbidden (affectionately named "Bidden" in this case)
• Unique traits for the Bidden, making them extremely useful in two different settings
