Description:
SCX IS SCHEDULED FOR SHUTDOWN BY STELLARIS PATCH 2.6.0

After careful consideration, Team Nessassity has come to the conclusion that the SCX project is unlikely to have a future under our direction. It has been officially in maintenance mode since January, waiting for a decision regarding its fate, but we were struggling to reach a final and unanimous consensus. Until now.

SCX has been in sort of a limbo since its creation. It was at first created to serve as a lightweight and independent alternative to NSC focused entirely on big ships that we enjoyed (and still do) designing for our custom shipsets.
But since it was meant to serve the assets we created rather than be a good ship mod in its own right, we never really had any clear long-term vision for it, and in the end, we’re having to accept that the SCX project was ill-conceived, created in the spur of the moment and aimed to achieve a short-sighted goal with no idea what we were going to do beyond that.
On top of that, we feel that it has simply outlived the little usefulness it had. While it was initially doing as good a job as it could, given technical limitations, filling the naval niches and sci-fi tropes that Stellaris hadn’t yet tackled – namely those of a flagship and dedicated carrier – those have since been expertly covered by Stellaris itself.
With the arrival of the Titan in the Apocalypse DLC, and now the upcoming Federations DLC’s Juggernaut station, a supercarrier that can allegedly build and repair ships in the field, we feel that SCX is no longer necessary to fill those niches. It can be considered entirely redundant.
And we have long accepted that fact. In fact, Titan is personally one of my favourite things since chocomint ice cream, and we are all looking forward to incorporating the Juggernaut into our shipsets!

At this point, none of us are interested in developing or even maintaining this mod anymore and we do not even use it ourselves. Every time we are forced to update it, like today with the release of the Lithoid shipset, we would rather be doing anything else. We have so many more projects that we are passionate about and would rather dedicate our full attention towards.

As such, today’s update adding nominal support for Lithoids is the last one for SCX. Furthermore, we will be removing it from Steam Workshop on the day Federations, and with it patch 2.6.0, releases (date unknown at this time).
So if anyone is interested in preserving SCX in either its entirety or any parts, they have until then to back up its files.

(Which can be found in: Steamsteamappsworkshopcontent281990914872677
And in case of SCX modules, folders corresponding to their respective Steam IDs).

Anyone interested also has our blanket permission to do anything they want with those files without having to ask or even credit us. If you believe you can make good use of this mod or any of its components, please by all means, it will have a brighter future in your care than it ever would in ours!

The SCX Core is the central framework that contains all the necessary resources for other modules and provides interconnectivity between them.
All modules are optional and can be mixed and matched according to your preferences. However, please note that certain modules may be incompatible or synergise poorly. In those cases, conflicts and recommendations will be listed in their respective mod descriptions.

Official modules:

  • Carrier Class: Introduces the Carrier, a support class optimised for strike craft deployment. Capable of fielding more and stronger fighters than any other ship.
  • Dreadnought Class: Introduces the Dreadnought, a capital class in between Battleships and Titans. Equipped with a combination of artillery and missiles, it is the natural predator of anything big and heavily armoured.
  • Mass Effect Classes: Adds a bit of Mass Effect flavour to Stellaris by adapting existing ships to the fleet doctrine of Citadel nations. It also simulates the Treaty of Farixen by restricting the number of Battleships that can be deployed.
  • Ship Spacing: Increases the spacing between ships, horizontal as well as vertical, resulting in more three-dimensional space battles.

Third party modules:

  • SCX Core modifies the country_types.txt file and as such is incompatible with any mods that do that same. This includes all other mods that add new ship classes to the game.
  • This means that it is NOT compatible with: NSC, RS and ISBS, among others. Even if it was possible, using multiple ship classes mods would be a recipe for imbalance and redundancy, there is no good reason to do that.
  • Additionally, individual modules may have their own conflicts. Please refer to their respective mod descriptions for details.
