Description:

Despite all the amazing new changes in 2.2, I was disappointed that I could no longer specialize my unique races into one of the three research paths by building only physics, engineering or biology labs. I understand this choice was important in keeping a balance with the way the new job system works, but I still felt it hampered my ability to roleplay certain empires effectively.

This mod adds three planet-unique building chains dedicated to each of the three research trees, engineering, physics and society. Each new building is unlocked via the next level of vanilla tech research speed, which still provide the +20% research speed bonus to that field.

The buildings work similarly to the normal research labs, providing +2, +5 and +8 jobs at each level, except that they provide designated research jobs for each field, engineers, physicists and biologists. Each research building also requires different specialized resources for upkeep, engineering requiring volatile motes, physics: exotic gases, and society: rare crystals.

To keep the ability to specialize balanced, each research building type is restricted to one per planet, and engineers, physicists and biologists produce only 10 of their respective research, which is slightly less than the sum of the research obtained from a normal researcher (4 of each). At higher levels, the designated research facilities and complexes provide a +15% and +25% bonus in that research field to all researchers on the planet.
